I Love Walthamstow

Last year Network Rail replaced their railway bridge on Palmerston Road, the road that bisects the market. For months it was closed to through traffic, a huge improvement for everyone except car drivers. It didn’t stop all the traffic crossing the High Street, but there wasn’t much, and people got used to being able to cross without too much trouble. One nice thing about the disruption was the temporary pedestrian bridge, which had artworks displayed on the hoardings, images of Walthamstow painted by local schoolkids. This was one of the best of an impressive collection, an enthusiastic reworking of Peter Blake’s ‘I Love London’. It's all back to normal now though.
