No. 1 Blackhorse Road is a sufficiently distinguished address, which is perhaps why the shop doesn't have a name. It seems to have been there for ever, white goods lined up on the pavement in the daytime and tightly shuttered out of hours, although I have to admit I've never considered buying anything there. The opposite side of Coppermill Lane is absolutely dire, genuine E17 grunge, with wire grilles over newspapered plate glass and a mess of cables and air conditioning units, but this shop with its old-fashioned hand lettering and plastic flowers always cheers me up - even if not quite as much as seeing the Mill still flourishing.
